Distribution Recommendation

Choose a distribution based on requirements.

To run ROS1, install Ubuntu20.04 (recommended)

To run ROS2, install Ubuntu22.04 (recommended) or 24.04

If you like tinkering, I personally recommend Fedora; you can use Docker to run ROS1 and ROS2 (not recommended for beginners).

This tutorial will cover the configuration of two major branches: the Debian family and the Red Hat family.

Debian-based: Most of this tutorial uses Ubuntu as the example.

Red Hat series: This tutorial mostly uses Fedora as an example.
